The decision to withdraw was made after Agostinacchio struggled with fatigue and an inability to perform at his usual level during the recent cyclocross races.
"I am disappointed to miss the last races of the season, but it is what it is," Agostinacchio said in an
official statement shared by the team. "We decided to stop my season to recover. It’s for the best. I’m proud of my season. I had some ups and downs, but overall, I think we can say it went pretty well with Euros and Namur. The last weeks were frustrating, because I just couldn’t push the power on the pedals."
Once recovered, the Italian will resume training to prepare for his first professional road season with
EF Education-EasyPost. His schedule is still unknown, and he admits that he is entering this new phase with an open mind regarding his expectations.
"It is going to be pretty special," Agostinacchio commented. "I don’t know what to expect from myself and I don’t know what to expect from the other riders in the peloton. I’m just going to listen to my coaches, do my training, stay relaxed and take my time."
