Isaac del Toro returned to winning ways with an emphatic victory at the 2025
Circuito de Getxo, adding an 11th professional win to his rapidly growing palmarès.
The 21-year-old Mexican, riding for
UAE Team Emirates - XRG, claimed his sixth win in just nine days of racing — an extraordinary streak that began after finishing second overall at this year's Giro d’Italia. Once again, Del Toro underlined his status as one of the brightest young talents in the sport and a clear contender for cycling’s future elite.
Speaking to the media after the race, Del Toro reflected on the day’s effort: “We tried to keep the pace high all day to make the finale a bit more manageable for us, though it was uphill pretty much from start to finish. I think the team rode a smart race, trying to anticipate the moves of the other squads. But I think everyone recognized the danger we posed and rode aggressively as well. I was a bit nervous, especially with
Juan Ayuso, to try and hit the final ramp hard and do as much damage as possible.”
Del Toro crossed the line ahead of teammate Juan Ayuso, completing a dominant one-two for UAE Team Emirates XRG. This win adds to a sensational run of form for Del Toro, who recently won the overall classification and three stages at the Tour of Austria, took victory at the Clàssica Terres de l’Ebre, finished second at the Clásica de Ordizia (Prueba Villafranca), and claimed fifth at the Clásica San Sebastián — all in the span of two weeks.
Asked about his current form, Del Toro responded with cautious optimism: “I'd love to be optimistic and say everything’s perfect, but anything can happen in this sport. What I’m experiencing this year isn’t exactly normal. I just want to enjoy it. I’m really happy with how things are going and especially with the support from the team — I feel backed, supported, and proud. And of course, there’s so much encouragement from the fans too. So no, I don’t want to set unrealistic expectations. I just want to keep enjoying the ride and stay present.”
Finally, Del Toro expressed his gratitude for racing on Spanish soil, particularly in the Basque Country, where he’s been competing in a series of demanding one-day races: “Honestly, I’ve had a great time. Racing here is always incredible. I don’t know—there’s just something really special about being here.”
