Fabio Baldato, sports director of
UAE Team Emirates - XRG, gave his version of what happened in stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia in which there were heads and tails for their leaders.
The Italian explained in Eurosport that
Isaac del Toro had been fantastic, being able to sneak into the front group and that with
Juan Ayuso they tried, but it was not possible to finish higher. There were technical difficulties due to the passage to Slovenia that prevented them from following the race in the best conditions:
"It was fantastic, it was very difficult with the cars, the stress, we passed Slovenia and we had no TV to watch the race, we knew that Isaac was ahead with Visma and that Ayuso was with Roglic, it's not ideal, of course, when you see the favorites fall, we are not happy. We tried with Ayuso to close the gap, but we also have to congratulate Del Toro"
After yesterday's events, Isaac del Toro arrives to the high mountain more leader of the race. Specifically, he is 1:20 ahead of Simon Yates, who is now second; 1:26 ahead of Juan Ayuso, who is now third; 2:07 ahead of Richard Carapaz; and 2:23 ahead of Primoz Roglic.
