Sepp Kuss took the first Grand Tour victory his career at the 2023 Vuelta a Espana. Finishing ahead of Jumbo-Visma teammates, Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic, Kuss ended the decade long wait for another American, Grand Tour winner.
Returning home to Durango, Colorado in the United States, Kuss was understandably giving a heroes welcome by a mass of his adoring countrymen. Whilst he may now live in Andorra, Kuss is a native of this area and the locals hadn't forgotten as thousands flocked to see the 29-year-old and congratulate him on his success.
Showing off his Red Jersey to the crowd, Kuss recounted the story of his win from on stage. “In the back of my mind, I didn’t want to have the red jersey – that seems like a real chore,” he laughed. “After being a part of the community for such a long time and over the past few years dragging [my wife] along after long flights, it’s really fun to share Durango with her and the whole community."
After jumping on his bike and giving fans a quick demonstration of his talents, Kuss then took part in a meet and greet, taking photos and signing autographs. As seen in the tweet below, the Jumbo-Visma man even took time sign a baby! Maybe a cycling star of the future?
