Vuelta a Espana 2026 Classifications Update Stage 12 - Mas extends lead; Onley loses serious time and Omrzel sneaks into Top5 fight

The first red jersey of the 2026 Vuelta a Espana will be decided immediately in Monaco, where a 9.4-kilometre individual time trial opens a race featuring more than 58,000 metres of climbing, repeated summit finishes and a second race against the clock later in the final week.
This live classifications hub will be updated after every stage with the latest General Classification, Points Classification, Mountains Classification and Best Young Rider standings, tracking the fight for the red, green, polka-dot and white jerseys from Stage 1 on August 22 through to the final stage in Granada on September 13.
The overall battle will be shaped by repeated opportunities for the climbers, from the early Pyrenean and Andorran tests to Calar Alto, Sierra de la Pandera, Penas Blancas and the decisive Collado del Alguacil. The two individual time trials and bonus seconds provide further chances for the gaps between the main contenders to change.
Sprint finishes and intermediate sprints will drive the points competition, breakaways can quickly transform the mountains standings and the white jersey will develop alongside many of the same stages that decide the general classification. Each update will show the latest standings after the day's racing and highlight the important changes across all four competitions.

General Classification Standings after Stage 12
Enric Mas has extended his lead by 27 seconds in the race with a strong attack on Calar Alto and a tactical masterclass by Movistar, who anticipated their rivals and managed to have riders supporting Mas in the key moments of the race.
The difference to Primoz Roglic is of 1:45 minutes now, likely enough to survive the race's time trial still in the lead. Felix Gall wasn't able to make the difference or gain time on Roglic, meaning he remains third at 2:06 minutes from the lead.
With a strong display, Richard Carapaz has climbed into fourth position in the race, 3:53 minutes down on the red jersey. He overtook Oscar Onley who crashed early in the day and had a meaningful time loss. The Briton is now fifth, 4:29 minutes away from the lead.
Jakob Omrzel began the day as 10th on GC and finished it in sixth place, moving up four positions and putting himself with 30 seconds of Onley's Top5 place.
Mattias Skjelmose, Sepp Kuss, Gregor Muhlberger and Harold Tejada close out the Top10.

Wout Van Aert remains unchallenged in the points classification, and today has grown it even further with another intermediate sprint first place on a mountainous stage.

King of the Mountains Classification Standings after Stage 12
Wout Van Aert has continued accumulating some points in the classification through the smaller climbs, putting him in second place on the KOM classification. But the difference to Santiago Buitrago has grown.
Both riders were in the breakaway today and, with its success, we have seen Buitrago gather up a lead of what are now 52 points. Enric Mas, with 24, is in third place but a distant one.

Youth Classification Standings after Stage 12
Oscar Onley remains in the lead of the youth classification, but it has taken a major hit. Jarno Widar has fell out of the battle for the jersey, but Jakob Omrzel has gained major time on the Briton.
The difference is of only 30 seconds now, with Omrzel having gained over 5 minutes at the finish line in Calar Alto.

Whilst they did not use it to their advantage, Decathlon CMA CGM Team have once again gained time on the teams' classification, a lead that has now grown by over an hour on the closest competitors.
