Visma lose their third rider at Giro d'Italia - Olav Kooij abandons race right after maiden Grand Tour win

It's been a very difficult 2024 for Team Visma - Lease a Bike due to injuries and illnesses. Olav Kooij, the man who has given the Dutch team the greatest joy of the Giro d'Italia so far with his win in Sunday's stage finishing in Napoli has now abandoned due to illness.
According to his team, Kooij spent the rest day sick with fever and will not be able to continue racing. The 22-year old has won stages as well at the UAE Tour and Paris-Nice this year and managed to outsprint Jonathan Milan in the thrilling arrival of stage 9, taking the first Grand Tour stage of his career in style. However his race ends before the second week of the race began.

- Pointless reporting. They are rivals, each tries their way to get their best result, with or without collaboration. As long as it’s all fair, why even report riders feelings about such stuff (yes I know, lack of other news). Anyone riding races will go through dozens of moments per race where they get emotional about the way someone else rides or takes advantage or doesn’t collaborate or more, it is natural, it is justified, it is NOT newsworthy!Mistermaumau17-11-2024
