VIDEO: Tour de France fans take crowd control into their own hands

The great thing about the sport of cycling is that you don't need to buy a ticket to come and see your heroes in person. The fact supporters can easily get up close and personal with riders comes with problems however, as seen on numerous occasions over the years.

At the recent Giro d'Italia for example, Tadej Pogacar was victim of a number of altercations with supporters. Having just attacked from the general classification group, Pogacar was ascending the slopes of Monte Grappa when a man ran over to the UAE Team Emirates leader and pushed him on the lower back. A little later up the climb, Pogacar showed frustrations at a flare being waved in his face and before he reached the summit, he was again touched by fans getting a little too close.

On the first big mountain of the 2024 Tour de France, fans again came out in their numbers to the Col du Galibier. Whilst most were well behaved and supported the riders from a safe distance, one man almost caused another incident as he attempted to run alongside the likes of Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard up the climb.

On this occasion however, fans took the matter of crowd control into their own hands. As the man running alongside the riders began to get a little too close, another supporter at the roadside shoulder tackled the runner, taking him to the ground and even pushing him down the grassy bank at the side of the road. Thankfully, everyone involved seemed to be okay and without injury.

Watch the incident for yourself in the video down below and let us know you think was in the right? Was the runner just having some playful fun or was the second supporter correct to tackle him to the ground in protection of the riders?
