The first sprint stage of this year's race, stage 3 of the 2023
Tour de France saw a chaotic, dramatic and somewhat controversial finale to the day, with
Jasper Philipsen taking the victory.
On a relatively quiet day compared to the opening weekend, the drama was mainly saved for the final few kilometres. In a chaotic finale, the battle for positions was fierce. After a brilliant leadout from
Mathieu van der Poel it was Jasper Philipsen who powered his way to the win. A protest from Jumbo-Visma over a perceived hindering of
Wout van Aert delayed things, but eventually, Philipsen was confirmed as the winner of the stage.
