Chris Froome is on the road to recovery after undergoing
surgery in France following a serious training accident on the Côte d’Azur. As
we reported yesterday, the four-time Tour de France winner was struck by a
vehicle near Saint-Raphaël and sustained multiple injuries, including a
pneumothorax, five broken ribs, and a lumbar vertebrae fracture.
His team confirmed the procedures were carried out without
complications. “We can confirm that Chris has successfully undergone surgery
following his recent injuries. The procedures went as planned, and Chris is
currently recovering in hospital under the care of his medical team,” they
wrote on social media.
In their update, the team also underlined Froome’s positive
frame of mind despite the severity of his injuries. “He is in good spirits and
grateful for the excellent meal support he has received. Chris and his family
would like to thank fans, friends, and the cycling community for their concern
and kind messages during this time.”
The accident marks another difficult chapter in the 40-year-old’s
career, which surely now after this crash must be over. The British legend is
out of contract at the end of this year, but has not yet officially confirmed
his retirement like his former Sky teammate Geraint Thomas.
