Tadej Pogacar
The World Championships were the main event last week, awarding many points in both the individual time trial and the road race. Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel headline this week's ranking for obvious reasons, as they dominated the Worlds.
You can check the previous update here. Tadej Pogacar only added 195 points to his tally this week given that he was defending the 900 units he obtained last year in the road race. As he won back-to-back, he just avoided losing them. He didn't participate in the time trial last year, so his fourth place in Rwanda gave him 195 points, making it 11.430 in total.
Both Jonas Vingegaard and Mads Pedersen remain in the podium with around half the points Pogacar has, and none of them increased their tally as they skipped a trip to Rwanda. Isaac del Toro got 185 additional points and is getting closer and closer to Mads Pedersen, thanks to his Worlds' performance, in which he finished fifth in the time trial and seventh in the road race.
Joao Almeida and Remco Evenepoel overtook Mathieu van der Poel, as the Dutch star skipped the World Championships and lost the 600 points he obtained last year after finishing in third place. In the case of Almeida, he also didn't ride Worlds, but he didn't have any points to defend as he didn't finish last year's edition.
The case of Evenepoel was quite the opposite. A gold and a silver medal awarded him 455 and 715 points respectively, although they were offset by last year's performance, where he also won gold in the time trial and finished fifth in the road race. Still, the 305 points he got were enough to pass Van der Poel by mere 5 points.
Other riders participating in the World Championships were highly benefited this week, as it is the case of Giulio Ciccone. The Italian finished sixth and was rewarded with 310 points, which helped him to overtake Oscar Onley, who closes this week's top 10.
Ben Healy's bronze medal also secured him 600 points (minus 265 he scored last year thanks to his seventh place), allowing him to climb 3 spots and sit in 13th place, less than 400 points away from the top 10. Arnaud de Lie is right in front of him thanks to another victory, this time at Paris-Chauny.
Mattias Skjelmose's fourth place at Worlds granted him 490 points, climbing 11 spots and reaching the 24th spot with 2174 points, exactly the same as his teammate Jonathan Milan. Juan Ayuso gained one spot after finishing in eighth place and is currently sitting in 16th.
Max Kanter and Stefan Küng were the riders increasing their position in the ranking the most. In the case of Kanter, he's having a solid season with plenty of top 10s. This week, two second places in a row at Omloop van het Houtland and Paris-Chauny gave him 170 points and a boost of 20 spots. Küng, on the other hand, finished in third at the mixed relay team time trial and tenth at the individual one, climbing 13 spots and making it to the top 100 once again.
Marc Hirschi, Quinn Simmons and Ben o'Connor were the three riders inside the top 100 losing the most spots. In the case of the first two, even if they travelled to Rwanda, they failed at defending the points they secured at last year's Worlds, where they finished sixth and ninth respectively.
Regarding the Australian, last year was extremely successful for him, getting a silver medal (715 points) in the road race and also a gold medal in the mixed relay team time trial (100 points), so his absence at the 2025 edition cost him 815 points, going down 55 spots.
