Young Czech talent Mathias Vacek has had a breakthrough performance at the UAE Tour and has been rumoured to be in advanced talks with Trek-Segafredo for a contract starting in 2023.
The information has been reported by Gazzetta dello Sport's Ciro Scognamiglio. Vacek was the winner of the recent UAE Tour's stage six where a breakaway consisting of mainly Pro Teams managed to hold off the peloton and where Russian Gazprom - Rusvelo placed three riders in the breakaway and launched Vacek into the win. This made Vacek the second youngest ever stage winner in a World Tour race only behind Remco Evenepoel.
After a day in the breakaway, Velon reported that the 19-year old averaged a power of 1444 watts in his winning sprint for 10 seconds. This information surely made it's ways within the scouting of several World Tour teams and within days rumours have already emerged of his feature. Mathias and his brother Karel - current Tirol KTM Cycling Team rider - are between the new talents emerging from the Czech Republic.
