Giro d'Italia reveals wildcards for 2022 edition

Alpecin-Fenix, Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè, EOLO-Kometa and Drone Hopper - Androni Giocatolli have been announced this morning as the teams that will be receiving a wildcard for the 2022 edition of the Giro d'Italia.

Giro d'Italia organizers have announced the teams that will be participating in the first Grand Tour of the season. In addition to the 18 World Tour teams, four Pro Teams had wildcards to be attributed and those have been officially confirmed. Alpecin-Fenix were granted their wildcard due to having granted the most UCI points last season. Team Arkéa Samsic also had that wildcard guaranteed, but opted not to participate in the Italian race as they look to focus on a promotion to World Tour level and are seeking a different choice in the calendar.

That announcement came as a breath of fresh air to the three Italian Pro Teams who suddenly found themselves in a better position, and as expected they all got the invitation to be in the country's most important stage-race. EOLO-Kometa will be back after last year's breakthrough of Lorenzo Fortunato, and the two traditional squad of Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè and Drone Hopper - Androni Giocatolli have received the remaining wildcards.

The Giro d'Italia takes place from the 6th to 29th of May this year and will see the riders have a Grande Partenza in Budapest, Hungary, and a finale in Verona.
