The transfer was expected, and today it was confirmed.
Adam Yates is leaving
INEOS Grenadiers for
UAE Team Emirates in a move that sees the British team gain competition directly from their own ranks.
"We all know he is a rider of great panache and we believe that he will be the right fit for our structure as we continue to reinforce the team for the coming years," UAE Team Emirates manager Mauro Gianetti said in a press release. The transfer was rumoured recently, and today it became a certainty that the Briton will be moving out of INEOS Grenadiers towards a rival team.
"I have seen the growth of the team over the years and the opportunity to join was one that I could not turn down," Yates said. "I feel that I’m entering my peak years as a rider and the team will get the best out of me. I look forward to riding with many of the top riders in the world and to contribute to the team becoming number one in the world.”
Although a big figure for several years in the peloton, his biggest career win was at the Volta a Catalunya 2021. He's got GC wins at the UAE Tour and for example the recent Deutschland Tour, whilst also being a strong one-day race rider on occasion, as shown by his recent results at the Canadian classics where he had a key role in Montréal - where he finished fourth. Yates joined INEOS on a two-year contract in 2021, and now he has signed a three-year deal with the UAE Team.
This will further increase the team's mountain block, which includes already Tadej Pogacar, João Almeida and Juan Ayuso. His role will be seen in the coming year, but it comes as a possibility that he will form part of support for Pogacar.
