The race began to fracture on the full ascent of the Col de la Croix. With 50 kilometres to go, Marlen Reusser was in a reduced lead group alongside Kasia Niewiadoma, Megan Arens and Femke De Vries. The situation already favoured the race leader, who at that point held a 30-second buffer over Elisa Longo Borghini.
The advantage kept growing over the summit. With 42 kilometres remaining, the leading quartet crested the Col de la Croix with a 1-minute-15 cushion over the Italian’s group. With that gap, the prospect of Reusser securing the overall in the Swiss race began to take definitive shape.
After the long descent, the finale unfolded on the last ten kilometres up the Col de la Croix. With ten kilometres to go, the same four riders remained clear: Reusser, Niewiadoma, Arens and De Vries. Behind, Longo Borghini trailed by 1 minute and 7 seconds, a deficit that put the Movistar Team rider on the brink of overall victory.
Any lingering doubts were swept away soon after. With seven kilometres to the line, the overall was virtually sealed when Elisa Longo Borghini lost contact in the chase and slipped to 1 minute and 50 seconds behind the leader. Up front, the selection kept tightening. Reusser and Kasia Niewiadoma rode clear together, further increasing the likelihood the stage would be decided between them.

The finale still had one last twist. Cedrine Kerbaol managed to bridge from behind and latch onto the two leaders with barely a kilometer to go. Even so, no one could deny Marlen Reusser, who capped a perfect day.
The Swiss rider thus sealed a prestigious victory on home roads. After taking the lead thanks to her time trial win, Reusser withstood pressure from her main rival in the mountains and finished the job with another stage success in Villars-sur-Ollon.
A double triumph that confirmed her superiority at the decisive moment of the 2026 Women’s Tour de Suisse and allowed Movistar Team to celebrate both the overall classification and the win on the race’s queen stage.
