Stage 6 of the Tour de Suisse 2024 offered the spectator a very short day of cycling of 42 km, but with a fight for the general classification due to its high finish on the final ascent to Blatten. João Almeida took the stage victory, finishing ahead of his teammate and yellow jersey Adam Yates.
Yates attacked on the final climb, and his teammate Almeida along with Egan Bernal and Mattias Skjelmose followed behind. In the end, the general classification leader strengthened his lead despite losing some time to Almeida himself. With two stages to go, the brilliant UAE Team Emirates duo have the yellow jersey completely under control.
Bernal maintains the 3rd position overall, extending the lead over the 4th classified, now Mattias Skjelmose. The Lidl-Trek rider replaces Enric Mas who drops to 5th place, losing a lot of time to the Colombian of the INEOS Grenadiers in the fight for the podium. Skjelmose is 56 seconds behind Bernal, and Mas is 1 minute and 10 seconds behind.
As for the rest of the Top 10 positions, Matthew Riccitello is the other rider next to Enric Mas to be affected by Skjelmose's move up from 6th to 4th, as the American drops to 6th place himself. Tom Pidcock moves up one position from 8th to 7th, gaining on Oscar Onley, who now occupies the British rider's position before the start of the stage. Felix Gall enters the Top 10 moving up from 11th to 9th place, with Pelayo Sanchez completing the top 10
