The surprises keep on coming from within the Lotto Soudal camp, as team CEO John Lelangue has been revealed to be the new General Manager of the Tour de Pologne, justifying his move away from the Belgian team.
“I felt it was time to return to my roots and I needed a new challenge," Lelangue said in a press release issued by the Polish race. "The organisation and management of races and events is a world that fascinates me and of which I am a part. It was not an easy decision to leave my role as CEO of the Lotto Soudal World Tour Team but I am really happy to join the Lang team as General Manager."
Lelangue is the CEO of the Belgian team, but will be stepping down at the end of the season, a move that has sparked criticism from within former team management. Despite losing it's position at World Tour level, Lotto Soudal should receive an automatic invitation to the race, the race which has seen Bjorg Lambrecht pass away in 2019 following a tragic crash.
As a World Tour race, Lelangue will remain in the spotlight as an organizer for one of the biggest events in pro cycling. The 2022 edition was won by Ethan Hayter after he stormed through the final time-trial to jump into the yellow jersey, whilst the race hosted many world-class sprinters and riders preparing for the Vuelta a Espana.
