Two official proposals to host the start of the Tour de France 2024 have been formalized, both within Italy.
In 2022 Copenhagen will take in the Grand Départ and it has recently been confirmed that next year the Tour de France will begin in the Basque Country with a very hard start. However, there is already a lot of talking and organizing on the background, and the 2024 edition may already have it's starting location chosen.
Florence has confirmed an application that had been rumoured for a while now, the city is the home of an immense cultural and artistic heritage and if it were to happen it'd be the first time the Tour de France would begin in Italy.
However not only did Florence apply but also the city of Bologna, which hosted the Giro's 2019 grande partenza. In Emilia-Romagna we already have a lot of quality cycling and it would be no surprise to see the race start there. But even if Florence does host it, there is a very good chance both regions will be represented.
