On the second stage of the Valenciana Juan Sebastián Molano took the opportunity to grab his second runner-up result of the season.
In the UAE - Team Emirates opportunities for the 27-year old Colombian sprinter won't arise as often this year with the additions of Pascal Ackermann and Alvaro Hodeg. Although he was on paper in leadout duties in Mallorca, he finished second in the final Trofeo Playa de Palma behind Lotto Soudal's Arnaud de Lie and is grabbing his chances once again here in Spain.
“It was a good sprint and I’m really happy and thankful for the work the guys did to put me in a good position. Unfortunately we lost Gibbons to a crash in the final kilometres so we missed a man, but we did what we could. Jakobsen was just that bit faster than everyone else today but the legs are very good and I hope to find a win very soon," he stated, after coming just shy of what would be his first win since the Giro di Sicilia of last year.
After Quick-Step and Intermarché ruled the leadout yesterday, Molano managed to get in the right wheels for the slightly uphill sprint. He overtook Viviani, Kristoff and Mohoric in the sprint, but was too far to grab the wheel of Fabio Jakobsen. He will however, have two more chances to take a win.
