Tom Pidcock has recently been involved in one of the biggest controversies of the season but it seems as if the dust as settled. The INEOS Grenadiers riders seems committed once again to staying on the team and also putting more focus on the road - this may even see him not race in the other two disciplines where he's won World Championships on.
The Briton is a former Cyclocross World Champion but last winter struggled with illness and a Mathieu van der Poel that was virtually unbeatable. If all goes normal the Alpecin-Deceuninck rider could be in for another winter of dominance, alongside the likely return of Wout van Aert and Thibau Nys who is seemingly becoming more consistent with his strong performances. Winning on the field during the winter becomes harder and harder, and the British super-talent will likely only race for preparation or fun, if at all, in the upcoming months.
"At the moment no, but possibly. It has been a long year, I needed a proper break away from everything, but there's a possibility I do some races over Christmas and the new year. We can figure out that later," Pidcock said in words at the Rouleur Live show last night. Still in November, there is no major pressure to have the goals layed out and begin specific preparation towards them, this will likely be decided in December when the team has it's first training camp - recently, riders and staff were reunited in Manchester for a mini camp but not one focused on training.
On the road it is known that he has a desire to test himself further as a Grand Tour contender likely at the Tour de France, this could become a big goal for 2025 if it fits the team's plans, combining it with the spring classics where he usually performs at his best.
This year he proved to be superior in Mountain Biking once again, winning a second Olympic title, and he is open to the possibility of not racing it this season in order to favour other goals: "I don't know. It depends on my road programme. If my road programme fits so I can do the Worlds I'll try and race some World Cups to get some points. If not, maybe I take a year out of mountain biking."
