Over recent years,
Filippo Ganna has been balancing goals on the road and on the track. In 2025 though, the
INEOS Grenadiers powerhouse is set to focus solely on his road goals in a bid to get back to his very best level.
"The gradual shift towards the road is a consequence of the races you do," the 28-year-old Italian explains in conversation with Adnkronos. "If you look at the list, the moments spent on the track are fewer than the many appointments. In my case, it will be a matter of no longer participating in World Championships-World Cups on the track and maybe doing some more training to improve on the road. Of course I'm not abandoning the track, it's for those load volumes that I can't maintain on the road."
After announcing himself as one of the most consistently powerful riders in the peloton at the start of this decade, Ganna enjoyed a somewhat quieter 2024 season on the road. Adding just three victories to his palmares, he claimed a time trial stage at the Giro d'Italia, the Italian national time trial championships and stage 4 of the Tour of Austria.
Heading into 2025 though, the Italian is growing in optimism as he looks to regain his best level and best form. “The first goal is still winning. As much as possible, it's something that everyone needs,” he concludes. “For now the big guys are fine, they too have had a break and when we start again we will see how the general approach will be. I hope to be a little more advantageous than in recent years. For example, in terms of weight. Not having sunk over 90 (laughs, ed) I will be able to start strong again with less difficulty," the two time time trial world champion concludes.
