Tom Dumoulin abandons disappointing Giro d'Italia

During the first half of the 14th stage of the Giro d'Italia, 2017 winner Tom Dumoulin has called it a race after struggling with form throughout the two weeks. The Jumbo-Visma rider was sitting in 31st place in the overall classification, after struggling in the mountain stages and leaving the Dutch team with no option for the GC as Sam Oomen and Tobias Foss also struggled.

Dumoulin shed time on Mount Etna, and fell out of GC contention early on in the race. He proved to be a crucial piece in Koen Bouwman's win in Potenza, where he put on a strong performance that culminated in the team's sole success so far in the race.
