Uno-X Mobility are, from this year onwards, part of the World Tour. Because of this, they must take part in virtually all World Tour events and that includes the Vuelta a España, where the Norwegian outfit will be present for the first time. There is also a big chance that the team will be able to take to the spot step throughout the three weeks with a stacked lineup.
“We know Spanish races well and we have raced a lot there over the years, but to do a Grand Tour there will be very special," team DS Leonard Snoeks said in a press release. "To race all three Grand Tours in our first season with that opportunity is exciting".
The team is missing out on Torstein Traeen, recently a yellow jersey at the Tour de France but also previously a leader at the Vuelta, due to illness. However, that has not prevented the nordic team from showing up to the final Grand Tour of the season with a strong set of riders.
“Personally, I want us to be visible almost every day. We need a good plan, and I want to see the collective work — also the fight you do not see on TV, before the broadcast starts. If we do that well, we should be part of the breakaways that go. We have won a stage in the Giro and in the Tour, and there is no reason why we should not be able to do it here as well. I also see no reason why we cannot win two.”
Tobias Johannessen is in the lead of the team, potentially aiming for the overall classification after an unsuccessful tilt at the Tour de France, but without the pressure to do so. Stage wins will be the priority.
“With a rider like Tobias, we know what he is capable of. So we will not waste a possible GC opportunity in the first week by going completely empty here or there. GC is a little bit in the back of the mind, but stages are what we go for.”

It is a strong lineup for the kind of course that the Spanish race presents, with Andreas Leknessund and Andreas Kron as specialists in the days that present lots of small climbs. Kron and Magnus Cort Nielsen are both previous stage winners at the Vuelta, with the latter aiming for the hilly days where a sprint might come to be.
“Magnus is retiring, and he is looking forward to racing Vuelta a España one last time,” Snoeks says. “He has had a fantastic career. I hope he races and shows the greatness we know he has. It will be very special to be part of one of his last Grand Tours.”
Giro d'Italia stage winner Fredrik Dversnes will also take part in the pursuit of success on those days, whilst classics specialist Rasmus Tiller is somewhat of an unknown in such difficult terrain but could do well on the flatter days, besides supporting Cort Nielsen - although he may aim for sprint results himself.
“Rasmus has said himself that on the two or three flatter stages, he would like to try to sprint himself. That is fun feedback from him. We come a little closer there when the finishes are not for the very fastest sprinters.”
The lineup is completed by Martin Tjotta and Simon Dalby, both of which puncheurs that will have their eyes on the breakaways.
