Tim Wellens after getting first win for his new team - "It was a perfect day, it's even a perfect week for me"

UAE Emirates is exhibiting remarkable performance at the Vuelta a Andalucía, having secured all three stages of the tour so far, with the first two claimed by Tadej Pogacar, and the most recent won by the new team member Tim Wellens.

“It was a perfect day, it's even a perfect week for me. As a team we managed to achieve many victories here in Spain,” he told lndeleiderstrui after the race. He continues, “It was up to me to take my chance, for which I am very grateful to the team. It was a good situation, because with Tadej as leader I didn't have to cooperate at the front.”

The task was not an easy one for him, as he had to contend with challenging winds and compete against other riders in order to succeed. "Nevertheless, we had to stay sharp, because with the wind it was a dangerous day. In the end we all got to the bottom of the last climb, and I knew that hill well. So it went perfectly according to plan, like the last few days. Everyone was so happy to be part of Tadej's victories, but it's so easy to race with him. He's the best rider.”

Pogacar announced that he would not be vying for a stage win, but his teammate was still able to come out on top, and now Wellens is hoping that the team can keep up its winning performance in the final two stages. “We want to continue on this path in the coming days. Alessandro Covi, for example, also drives very strong, so there will certainly be more opportunities," concluded Wellens. He currently holds 10th position in GC, 2 minutes and 26 behind his teammate and overall leader Tadej Pogacar.
