Magnus Cort Nielsen of
EF Education-EasyPost team won the stage 3 of
Volta ao Algarve. He managing to finish ahead of
Filippo Ganna of INEOS-Grenadiers and
Jordi Meeus of Bora-hansgrohe team who finished second and third respectively.
6 riders of Portuguese local team formed the breakaway being caught around 30mkm to the finish. On the last 25 km a very dangerous group was formed with race leader Magnus Cort Nielsen (EF Education EasyPost), Filippo Ganna and Thomas Pidcock (INEOS-Grenadiers), Rui Costa (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Tobias Foss (Team Jumbo-Visma) and Valentin Madouas (Groupama-FDJ) giving headaches to the teams with sprinters.
Soudal-Quick-Step and Bora-hansgrohe pulled the peloton the best they could to catch the late breakaway. And in the last 400 meters the peloton managed to get in touch with the breakaway but Magnus Cort Nielsen launched a very powerful attack that nobody caught.
Magnus Cort makes the double stage win in Volta ao Algarve finishing ahead of breakaway companion Filippo Ganna and Jordi Meeus the first sprinter of the peloton. With this victory Magnus Cort Nielsen not only kept his leadership but increases it to 14 seconds of advantage.
