Thomas Gloag's season over after being hit by car in training ride

Jumbo-Visma's Thomas Gloag is ending his 2023 season after getting a knee injury which required surgery following a crash, one where he was hit by a car on a training ride.

According to the Dutch team, Gloag has already undergone surgery in the knee following the incident. The 21-year old was preparing for the last races of the season, having only raced the Clásica San Sebastián following the Giro d'Italia.

The 21-year old hence finds a big obstacle to overcome. Gloag has joined Jumbo-Visma this year after two seasons with Trinity Racing and immediately impressed with a sixth place at the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. His season then had him change more towards a domestique role, despite an 11th spot at the Tour de Romandie.

At the Giro d'Italia he made his Grand Tour debut, perhaps the most successful he could hope for as the Dutch team rode for victory. Primoz Roglic was in pink when the race reached the finished and Gloag climbed onto the podium on Roma.
