The International Cycling Union (UCI) has officially announced that the Italian province of Trentino will host the 2031 Cycling Super
World Championships. The decision was announced Wednesday during the UCI's annual congress held in Kigali, Rwanda, where the 2025 Cycling World Championships are currently being contested.
With this choice, Italy will once again be the epicenter of world cycling eleven years after the last time it hosted a World Championship, in 2020, in the city of Imola. Trentino, located in the north of the country, was selected after submitting an ambitious bid backed by an investment of more than 30 million euros, with the aim of holding an event that goes far beyond a simple competition.
The Super World Cycling Championships, is a quadrennial event that brings together all cycling disciplines in a single event: from traditional road cycling to track cycling, para-cycling, BMX, artistic cycling and many other disciplines. Its first edition was held in Glasgow (Scotland) in 2023, and the second will take place in 2027 in the French region of Haute-Savoie.
The inclusion of Trentino as the venue for the 2031 edition marks an important milestone in the history of Italian cycling. It will be the fifteenth time that Italy will host an elite road cycling World Championships, reaffirming its status as one of the great nations of the sport.
Trentino's designation is not only recognition of the region's strong link to cycling, but also part of a broader strategy of investment in the sport by the regional government. In addition to the 30 million earmarked for the 2031 Super World Championships, Trentino plans to invest a further 15 million euros to support the 2026 Winter Olympics, as well as 14 million for the 2028 Youth Olympic Games.
