The 2025 Tour of Valencia had been put into some uncertainty
after the natural disaster and flooding in the city in October, but the
organisers have now confirmed the event will go ahead as planned. The 2024
edition was won by
Brandon McNulty, and organisers will be relieved to confirm
the event can still go in a few months time.
The organisers of the
Volta a Comunitat Valenciana
released a statement to address what had happened in the region over the past
month, "Hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by the tragedy
and our competition is part of that. Our storage facilities have been flooded
and the vast majority of the material we use for the organization has become
unusable.
“In addition, a large part of the Tour’s organisation lives
in the affected area, so they have also experienced the tragedy first-hand. It
has been a hard blow for us, but our spirit is still strong and we will
recover, that is for sure
“We want to confirm that the race is not in danger. The Tour
will be held from 5 to 9 February 2025 and we hope to count on your support in
a very special edition given the recent events. If necessary, an adjustment of the route will be proposed to
allow the Tour of Valencia to continue.”
So it’s clear that the
event organisers have done all that
they can to help out in the community, whilst also ensuring that the race can
go ahead as planned, which is much more positive news that what has been coming
out of Valencia in
recent weeks.
