"For me, it was incredibly tough; it felt like another time trial," Harper described today's exahustive breakaway formation. "Getting into the breakaway wasn't easy, and even when we were in a good group, we couldn't create a significant gap for a while. We kept hearing about riders trying to make a jump, so it was a real battle all day."
"Regarding the finale, Enric Mas attacked once, and I didn't have the legs to follow him. I managed to get back into the rhythm because every time the gradient eased, they eased off a bit. But I was completely exhausted, and as soon as the road steepened again, he attacked once more, and I simply didn't have the legs to go with him," he said
New GC contender?
Although it was hardly Harper's objective today, he managed to jump up seven positions and has entered a top-10 in the
general classification thanks to his effort, as he gained three minutes on peloton. Harper now sits 4:09 behind pink jersey Afonso Eulálio.

"The GC contenders aren't too worried about me. With all the big mountain stages coming up, that's where the big gaps will be created. For me, it's fantastic to gain back three minutes. Now, it's about recovering well, especially since the first big test is this Saturday. I'm going to try to recover as much as possible to see what I can do in the mountains."
"In the general classification, whether I'm four minutes down or whatever, I'm aiming for any result. Every day, I want to give my best. If I'm in the breakaway, I'm going for the stage win, but you can also be opportunistic and gain time, like I did today. I'm not saying I'm going to be at the front every day; we'll see how the race unfolds, but gaining those three minutes is excellent."
