We are in the middle of the on-going World Championships in Zurich, but the UCI has already presented the route that the cyclists will ride in the elite men's and women's time trial and road race for Rwanda 2025. It will be one of the hardest in history, with 5,475 meters of elevation gain, the second hardest after the 1966 Nurburgring, won by the local rider, the German Rudi Altig, ahead of the French Jacques Anquetil and Raymond Poulidor.
The elite men's road race will be held in Kigali, at 1,400 meters above sea level, will be 267.5 kilometers long and will pass through Mount Kigali and the Mur de Kigali. They will ride 15 laps of a circuit divided into two stages to finish on cobblestones in the last two kilometers. The big favorites in Switzerland, Tadej Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel, will again have a chance to win the rainbow jersey. We could also count on the presence of Jonas Vingegaard, a big absentee this year.
The women's race will be 167.4 kilometers and will have a total elevation gain of 3,350 meters. Riders like Demi Vollering, Katarzyna Niewiadoma or Elisa Longo Borghini should be the top favorites if there are no changes in twelve months. Anna van der Breggen's return to competition should also be watched. The time trials will be 40.6 and 31.2 kilometers respectively and will be a kind of time trial climb, which will be detrimental to the big specialists.
The date is already known, the Rwanda 2025 World Championships will be held between September 21 and 28.
Hope they’ve improved their security, I once managed to participate half a lap in the Tour of Rwanda unnoticed by anyone except spectators who thought it hugely entertaining.
Not a fair course for TT specialists. A climber will become world TT champion. The road race should be a good watch though.
So what? What was the last really difficult TT course in a major championship? Probably the one in Tokyo, specialist can survive one year without a TT suited to them
Why tf should the TT specialists deserve a course suited to them EVERY year??
This year was not a flat course but at least TT specialists had a chance. You would soon be moaning if the worlds were flat courses that did not suit Pog.
No, I actually think we should have a very flat WC soon, sprinters should have a chance as well. As should the climbers, including the TTs
It’s ALWAYS unfair to some type of rider! Why should it always suit the same type? Anyway, why do YOU care, are you participating?
No I am not participating but then again neither are you. I was only giving an opinion just like you are.
