UAE Team Emirates rider Tadej Pogacar has won the second stage of Vuelta a Andalucia. He was the fastest among his rivals in the final sprint.
Enric Mas finished behind him, and Santiago Buitrago completed the podium.
The breakaway riders included Matej Mohoric, Joe Dombrowski, Iván García Cortina, Nelson Oliveira, Alessandro Covi, Christopher Juul-Jensen, Julen Amezqueta, Davide Bais, Frederik Frison, Luis Angel Mate, Aaron Van Poucke and Alex Colman. The group worked together and increased the lead to over 2 minutes and 20 seconds.
As the race neared the last 50 kilometers, the lead reduced as Mikel Landa attacked the main climb of the day, followed by Tadej Pogacar who went up the road later on, joining the remnants of the breakaway. As the chasing group containing Mas, Landa, Buitrago and Carlos Rodríguez rejoined the front, there were several attacks in search of the stage win until the final climb, but with little success.
It al came down to the final meters. Pogacar and Mas entered the final cobbled section side by side, but there was little that could be done to defeat the race leader. Crossing the finish line at the fastest pace, Tadej Pogacar secured the win, followed by Enric Mas in second place and Santiago Buitrago in third.
