Tadej Pogacar has ridden into the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia yesterday on the second stage of the race; At the Santuario di Oropa the UAE Team Emirates rider soared to his first ever Giro win but he admits that there are more important things.
"No pasta is way better, sorry. I could live without a Giro win but I could not live without pasta," Pogacar said into the microphones of Eurosport in a light-hearted interview following the podium celebrations.
The Slovenian could enjoy what was his first real success in his career at the Giro, coming back from a puncture and fall at the base of the ascent, and then managing to attack and distance all his rivals with just over 4 kilometers to go on the first summit finish of the race.
Into stage 3, the first flat day of the Corsa Rosa, he already carries a 45-second lead over Geraint Thomas and Daniel Martínez. At the helm of UAE Team Emirates, he has already gotten himself - as expected - in the leading position to win the overall classification.

You cannot place more importance of anything other than the person you’re in a relationship with.

He should have said, I cannot win without pasta the way my girlfriend prepares it ;-)

I’d rather have half of Italy on my back than my girlfriend ;-)

And it’s not that private, he brings it up regularly so should be able to include it in jokes.

Only in your life, Med people are different. Pasta rules. Sorry you will never understand.

Hope that’s not directed at me coz I spent most of my holidays in Italy with very good Italian friends so I know enough to know there’s more to life, family (and in Naples, even death and Maradona) is more sacred than pasta.

But ok, if he was truly smart he would have said Girlfriend or Mum

Just in
