Tadej Pogacar has ridden into the pink jersey at the Giro d'Italia yesterday on the second stage of the race; At the Santuario di Oropa the UAE Team Emirates rider soared to his first ever Giro win but he admits that there are more important things.
"No pasta is way better, sorry. I could live without a Giro win but I could not live without pasta," Pogacar said into the microphones of Eurosport in a light-hearted interview following the podium celebrations.
The Slovenian could enjoy what was his first real success in his career at the Giro, coming back from a puncture and fall at the base of the ascent, and then managing to attack and distance all his rivals with just over 4 kilometers to go on the first summit finish of the race.
Into stage 3, the first flat day of the Corsa Rosa, he already carries a 45-second lead over Geraint Thomas and Daniel Martínez. At the helm of UAE Team Emirates, he has already gotten himself - as expected - in the leading position to win the overall classification.
