Steven Kruijswijk went through a lot during his career. From a begineer who turned pro with Rabobank in 2010, through almost winning the Giro in 2016, to becoming a mentor and road captain at Visma | Lease a Bike.
But at the age of 37, his career is gradually coming to a wrap. According to informations of
WielerFlits, Kruijswijk, who is currently riding the Giro d'Italia, would conclude his career at the end of the 2026 season at the age of 39.
Although the experienced Dutchman finished 3rd at the 2019 Tour de France, 4th at both the Giro 2016 and Vuelta 2018, he has only two victories to his name. In 2011, it was his first big breakthrough when he won a stage at the Tour de Suisse. Three years later, Kruijswijk also won the general classification of the Arctic Race of Norway.
Since then, he became a top-level GC contender at Grand Tours, and later an important piece in the Visma | Lease a Bike puzzle. In recent years his main tasks consisted of supporting Grand Tour winners Jonas Vingegaard and Primoz Roglic while also passing down experience to younger teammates.
