Simon Geschke announces 2024 will be his final year in the professional peloton

2024 will see the final chapter in the story of one of the peloton's most easily recognisable riders. Simon Geschke has announced this season will be his final as a professional rider.

Taking to social media, the 37-year-old German revealed his big news. "Happy new year everyone! 2024 will be a special year for me as I decided that it will be my last season as a professional," reveals the former Tour de France stage winner. "I'm highly motivated to have a good season before I retire, so bring it on!"

The bearded German has been a stalwart of cycling's biggest races for over a decade. Riding for the likes of Cofidis, CCC and Sunweb, wearing the polka-dot jersey on occasion, winning the aforementioned stage of the Tour de France in 2015.

With one final year in the peloton, could Geschke take one more big win in 2024 to cap his career in style? Time will tell.
