Norwegian rider Tobias Foss has revealed the true extent of the injuries he suffered in a training crash in Valencia, an incident that initially seemed less serious than it has proved to be.
According to the rider, the first diagnosis pointed to a fractured scapula. However, subsequent medical tests confirmed a far more complex picture: multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a punctured lung, and a fractured vertebra.
The INEOS Grenadiers rider has been out of competition for seven weeks, a period he described as “tough and painful.” Even so, Foss announced he has been able to return to road training, beginning his sporting recovery. Through his personal Instagram account, the Norwegian shared a messagewith the fans.
“Medical update: what we initially thought was a broken scapula after the crash in Valencia turned out to be quite a bit more, with multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a punctured lung, and part of a vertebra broken."
"It’s been seven tough and painful weeks, but on Monday I finally got back on the road and started easing into training again."
"The INEOS Grenadiers medical team has been absolutely brilliant in looking after me and helping me get back as soon as possible, and with my little buddy keeping me company on the sofa, the days went by quickly."
"I’ll use the next few weeks to get the body back in shape and I hope to start my season again at Amstel."

What lies ahead for Tobias Foss

The rider indicated he will focus the coming weeks on rebuilding fitness with the goal of returning to competition at the Amstel Gold Race, one of the standout classics on the calendar.
For now, no further details have been offered regarding precise racing timelines beyond that target, although his return to training marks significant progress after the severity of his injuries.
