Ruben Guerreiro looking to break contract with EF Education, join Movistar

Ruben Guerreiro has been hinted at INEOS Grenadiers over the past few weeks, but a recent interview suggests he is close to signing with Movistar Team, following some unsatisfaction that is seeing him trying to break his contract with EF Education-EasyPost.

Guerreiro has an ongoing contract with EF Education until the end of 2023, however that may not be a total obstacle for a transfer. “There is currently a one-year contract with EF-Education, but I think we can come to an agreement," Guerreiro's agent Giuseppe Acquadro told Velonews.

“He is close to Movistar. We are still in talks, but we are looking at a contract of three or four years. It's not over yet, but it's going in the right direction," he continued. Following rumours of contact with other teams, it is likely that the Portuguese is on his way out of the American team despite his ongoing contract.

Guerreiro has shown his climbing prowess this year by winning the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge, but has also shown in other races that he had the capacity to fight for wins in the mountainous and hilly races. The Spanish team, with Alejandro Valverde set to retire, is making moves in the market and Guerreiro may join his compatriot Nelson Oliveira this upcoming year.
