Results World Championships men's time trial 2026 - HISTORIC Remco Evenepoel wins fourth title in a row

The 2026 World Championships have gone off to a thrilling start. After Marlen Reusser won the women's elite time trial; it was Remco Evenepoel who triumphed for the fourth time in a row at the men's elite time trial even in Montréal.

The Belgian was the main favourite, and the man to beat in the Canadian 39-kilometer long course, and this would quickly prove to be the case over the race. Evenepoel, the defending champion, was the fastest over the first intermediate point with a time of 12:17 minutes. He was 9 seconds faster than under-23 world champion Jakob Söderqvist, 17 over Michael Leonard... Whilst Filippo Ganna was only 22 seconds in arrears.

With Stefan Küng also losing serious time in the first split, it began to appear as if Evenepoel was in a race against himself. Time point number 2 would prove this: The Olympic Champion was 34 seconds ahead of Söderqvist, whilst Ganna only sat fourth, 40 seconds behind.

Ganna would move to second place in the third intermediate split with the same time as the Swedish rider, but 48 seconds behind Remco Evenepoel already at this point already. Paul Seixas would be five seconds behind, clearing out the path for the podium fight.

Paul Seixas took over the lead, whilst Jakob Söderqvist - a leading contender for the silver medal - arrived at the finish bloodied. The Swedish rider suffered a crash, and arrived just behind the time of Seixas and Brandon McNulty.

Filippo Ganna would arrive at the finish line with the new best time, taking 16 seconds on Paul Seixas. But the chances of winning were low, and the duo had to settle for second and third. Soon after, Evenepoel emerged as the fastest rider into the finishing climb.

Evenepoel won the time trial event, winning his fourth consecutive time trial world title, an historic feat. He won the race with a 57-second gap over Ganna, and 1:13 minutes over Paul Seixas.
