After winning the women's Tour of Flanders, FDJ United - Suez has managed to win Paris-Roubaix Femmes with a stellar performance from Franziska Koch. The German national champion managed to take the victory despite being outnumbered by Visma's Marianne Vos and Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.
The race was fast from the start and, like the men's event, there was no breakaway of the day. Without the Trouée d'Arenberg on the route, the riders didn't risk a Mathieu van der Poel scenario with a double puncture in one sector, however the mechanicals and crashes would affect the race quite a lot still as expected.
The peloton split on several occasions due to the falls and the continuous sequence of cobbled sectors but it only truly opened up with 46 kilometers to go, as Franziska Koch attacked the Mons-en-Pévèle sector and was followed by Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Marianne Vos and Blanka Kata Vas.
The quartet all had the interest in keeping the move alive, and continued to push the pace. SD Worx notoriously did not have neither Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes in front, however they were also left without Vas as the Hungarian champion was then dropped with 23 kilometers to go. The attacks then continued, with the FDJ United - Suez rider looking the strongest on the cobbles and moving repeatedly. However, with Vos following and not collaborating, it would allow Ferrand-Prévot to come back in several times. Behind, Kopecky and Megan Jastrab chased on, whilst Lucinda Brand briefly joined them before crashing into a spectator at the Carrefour de l'Arbre.
Despite having the numbers, Visma did not look to attack the final kilometers following the cobbled sectors. Koch was the one attacking, dropping Ferrand-Prévot whilst Vos always stayed in the wheel. Ferrand-Prévot would come back to the front once again and moved but did not have the legs to make the difference and Visma was happy leaving it to a sprint, confident in Vos' legs.
However in the final sprint, the veteran was not able to outsprint Koch who became the new winner in Roubaix, after spending the spring supporting Demi Vollering's ambitions.
