One of those lingering transfer rumours that fails to go away is the possibility of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe luring double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel from Soudal - Quick-Step. At a team press day in Mallorca, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe boss Ralph Denk was again asked about Evenepoel's future.
"First of all, I have to say that Remco has made it very clear that he will stay where he is," Denk begins his story in conversation with VTM. "And yes, those rumours started years ago when I had a conversation with Patrick Lefevere about Remco."
Lefevere, who notably announced his retirement recently, has had some derogatory comments about Denk in the past. “Do you know my friend Ralph Denk? He's done the same thing twice: he offers a contract with very high bonuses, which is not done with riders under contract,” Lefevere told Het Nieuwsblad previously. “He did it once four years ago and now again. Last week I heard that he also visited Tom Pidcock. Denk, I don't like him.”
So with the controversial and often outspoken Belgian team boss now out of the picture, is the potential Evenepoel to Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe transfer back on the cards? "He has a contract and he wanted to stay. He doesn't want to change teams," Denk concludes with brutal honesty. "That's the story. He does have a great personality. He would fit in well with us, but he has made it clear where he sees his future."
