For the first time since the Vuelta a San Juan, world road race champion
Remco Evenepoel will be back in competitive action as he's set to lead the
Soudal - Quick-Step team at the upcoming
UAE Tour.
With 23-year-old Evenepoel leading the Soudal-Quick-Step charge for the overall general classification victory, sprint wins will be hunted by Tim Merlier. “We travel to the UAE with a lot of confidence, given by the strong team we have for this race and the shape our two leaders – Remco and Tim – have displayed in their first races of the season," says sports director Geert Van Bondt.
The five remaining riders tasked with helping Evenepoel and Merlier in their respective quests for success will be Josef Cerny, Mauro Schmid, Pieter Serry, Bert Van Lerberghe and Louis Vervaeke.
"The parcours is more or less the same, with the presence of the team time trial making things more interesting than in the past. We’ll see where we are after that second stage," says Van Bondt. "But we aim for a good GC and some wins, so hopefully things will go as planned for us and we’ll have a solid outing next week”
