Soudal – Quick-Step team leader
Remco Evenepoel has recently
been in America, beginning his preparation for the 2025 Tour de France.
Evenepoel made his debut at the Tour in 2024 with a podium and winning the young
riders classification, before he
made history at the Olympics by becoming the
first male rider to win the road race and the time trial at the same games.
Evenepoel was joined America by his teammates
Mikel Landa
and
Tim Merlier, who should join the Belgian star at next year’s Tour. On the
team’s website, they released a
press release discussing the training camp, “Our
annual trip to Specialized's Morgan Hill facility innovation centre. While they
were able to do some testing there, they tested in the famous Specialized
WinTunnel and worked with Retul and Body Geometry Fit experts to optimize their
position on the bike.
“In addition to the work, our riders were also very happy to
celebrate another successful season with a global audience of Specialized
employees. Our hosts also took our riders and employees to an ice hockey game
between the Sharks and the Red Wings.”
Evenepoel went on to say, “We are very grateful to
Specialized for hosting us. We have been working together for years. It is a
partnership where we share the same goal: always pushing and innovating to be
better.
“It is so important to see the team here, fine-tuning things
for the upcoming season and talking about developing new, faster equipment and
how we can implement its use. It is also nice to see the people who work so
hard supporting us throughout the season.”
Evenepoel’s teammate Tim Merlier will be hoping return to
the Tour next year, as he seeks to add to the stage win he won back in 2021.
Merlier became the European Road Race championships, and Soudal – Quick-Step
would do very well to have Merlier target stage wins whilst Evenepoel races for
the general classification.
