Just days after
Movistar Team announced a four-year contract
renewal with
Enric Mas, fresh rumours emerged suggesting that
Team Visma |
Lease a Bike had made a late attempt to lure the Spanish climber away.
According to a report by
Marca, the Dutch team reached out to Mas in a
move reminiscent of their successful winter signing of Simon Yates. However,
the proposal was swiftly turned down.
The response from Mas was clear: his only option was always
to remain with Movistar. The Grand Tour contender, who has consistently ranked
among the elite in stage races over the past several seasons, reportedly gave
no consideration to the approach from Visma | Lease a Bike.
Mas’ long-term extension with Movistar marks a strong vote
of confidence from both sides, as the Spanish team continues to build around
one of their most reliable leaders. Despite recent never having won a grand
tour, the Spaniard has been second three times at the Vuelta, and Mas remains a
cornerstone of Movistar’s ambitions in Grand Tours.
Team Visma | Lease a Bike boss
Richard Plugge also weighed
in on the rumour. Taking to social media platform X, Plugge responded simply:
“¿Que?”, a brief but telling dismissal of the claim. With both parties
downplaying any suggestion of a move, it seems Mas’ future remains firmly in
Spanish hands.
