Primoz Roglic is in contract year with Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, but the chances of him remaining in the pro peloton for next year have been supported by a recent report. The Slovenian seems set on continuing his career beyond 2026, albeit in a different team and with different goals.

Roglic to move out of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe

As reported by Marca, the Slovenian's plans involve moving into a team where he would have once again a stronger leadership role, something he no longer has at Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. He was initially signed into the 2024 season after Red Bull's entry in the team, which also signaled an increase in budget.
Previously, he was already a multi-time winner of Grand Tours, including several editions of the Vuelta a España and also the Giro d'Italia on that very season. However after the rise of Jonas Vingegaard and also the breakthrough win of Sepp Kuss at the 2023 Vuelta, it had become apparent for Roglic that at Visma he wouldn't have the leadership he had in the past - which saw him aim, and almost conquer the Tour de France's yellow jersey.
In 2024 he went on to win the Vuelta for the German team, his greatest victory in the three-year contract that he signed. A victory at the 2025 Vuelta a Catalunya reaffirmed his ability to still perform in an ever-younger and stronger peloton, but his Giro d'Italia was wrecked by a crash on stage 9 which also took his fellow rival Juan Ayuso out of GC contention eventually. Upon his return at the Tour de France he finished eighth in the overall classification, although he was set to finish fifth, in a race where Florian Lipowitz surged as the team's new big GC option.

Rise of Lipowitz and signing of Evenepoel make the difference

Roglic's personal ambitions for the 2026 took another big hit as the team, like they had previously done with himself, bought out the contract of Remco Evenepoel. Whilst the Belgian did not put in strong climbing performances in the first half of the season, his big goal revolved around the Tour de France - as did Lipowitz'.
The team is also nurturing the ambitions of the young Giulio Pellizzari, who should be a large priority as his development in the team has been nothing but impressive - whilst also reportedly maintaining Jai Hindley, podium finisher at the recent Giro d'Italia.
Within such dense internal competition, there is little room for Roglic to lead. He has been given this role for the Vuelta a España later in the yar where he will have the chance to take a record-breaking fifth win; whilst his summer calendar has been shorter than usual and has not included neither Grand Tour. Recently, he has won the Slovenian time trial national championships - winning a home title for the first time since 2020.
