On the 15th of February we have got another high-level one-day race in Spain, this one guided towards the climbers and puncheurs. The Vuelta a Murcia is a race with a lot of history and tradition, and it promises to deliver another exciting edition in 2025. We preview the race ahead.
The consists of a long 200-kilometer route which will be wanted by some riders to prepare for the spring, and it's a race that will feature some climbing. However, as they say, the riders make the race... If it is conservative, then the final ascent shouldn't be hard enough to destroy the peloton, and we could have a reduced group sprint or late attack succeeding.
However, if the Alto Collado Bermejo (7.3Km; 6.9%; 86Km to go) is attacked hard, then we will already have a small group coming out of it, and it can become very tactical in the last hours of racing as was the case in the 2024 edition. The ascent to Alto Cresta del Gallo (4.3Km; 6.6%; 13Km to go) could be the decisive moment of the race, with a short downhill and flat section following to the finish in Murcia.
Prediction Vuelta a Murcia 2025:
*** Brandon McNulty, Tim Wellens
** Aurélien Paret-Peintre, Marc Soler, Clément Champoussin
* Clément Berthet, Nairo Quintana, Gonzalo Serrano, Isaac del Toro, Lorenzo Fortunato, Milan Vader, Eduard Prades, Eric Fagundez, Iván Sosa
Pick: Brandon McNulty
How: Late attack in the final flat meters, UAE might have numerical advantage in the finale.
