We
preview stage 5 of the
Tour of Britain, which will take place on the
6th of September. This is going to be the race's queen stage, the most difficult one and the only one with a summit finish - on The Tumble, one of Wales' most difficult climbs, where
Remco Evenepoel and Thymen Arensman will be amongst the favourites. The stage will start at
12:45CET and should finish at
15:35CET.
The queen stage of the race sees the riders fully on Welsh territory, and it will be a day for the climbers and puncheurs to fight for the win. Stage 5 starts in Pontypool and follows rolling roads until the double ascent of 'The Tumble'.
The final climb, which will be ridden first with 48 kilometers to go, is 5.5 kilometers long at 7.3%. This is where the biggest gaps of the race can be made and it's a very exposed climb, where the elements can also play a big role in the outcome of the day.
Now don't be mistaken, Remco Evenepoel is by far the biggest name present to battle for this stage, but he is not the 'man to beat' in this stage - in fact there is none. Overall it's a climb that's small enough for some of the puncheurs to be able to survive or even take the win, but also long enough for the climbers to be able to make the difference. Evenepoel will be amongst the main favourites but I don't believe he's carrying his best form yet.
Oscar Onley is certainly a major favourite to take the win here, but we cannot exclude neither Romain Grégoire or Julian Alaphilippe who both recently showed at the Tour de Suisse that they can handle climbs like this with the best.
