It comes as no surprise that reports are coming out that
Peter Sagan will not be participating in the upcoming Tour des Flandres. The former winner of the race has had difficulties recovering his top form, and will be focusing on other races later in the spring.
L'Équipe reports that the Slovakian champion will not be in the second monument of the season as he is struggling with physical issues. Sagan has had Covid-19 later this winter, and has struggled to recover form in time for the cobbled classics. He has finished 68th in the E3 Saxo Bank Classic and hasn't finished Gent-Wevelgem, after being dropped early on in the race.
L'Équipe also reports that Sagan is likely to resume competition at the Circuit Cycliste Sarthe which is set to start only a few days after Flandres, in an attempt to get some more racing in, and possibly target some stages before reevaluating his goals for the spring, which are set to include - on paper - Amstel Gold Race and Paris-Roubaix.
TotalEnergies will head into Flandres with Anthony Turgis on the helm, with Dries van Gestel as a wildcard after finishing third in the recent Gent-Wevelgem and taking a big win at the Profronde van Drenthe.
