TotalEnergies have hired Peter Sagan as the headliner for the 2022 season but the former three-time World champion has been suffering from several health issues since the start of the season which have limited his form and results. Sagan did not take to the start today at Tirreno-Adriatico.
After finishing fourth on yesterday's stage of Tirreno-Adriatico it was expected that the Slovakian champion would be back to form, at least well enough to be competitive. Peter Sagan was reported to have a fever and stomach issues and will not take to the start of stage three of the race which will see the peloton head to Terni for another bunch sprint.
At last weekend's Strade Bianche the likes of Tom Pidcock and Romain Bardet also failed to start due to stomach issues. Sagan is now left with very little racing before his first big goal of the season Milano-Sanremo, and after starting off his season with modest form due to a Covid infection in January, the situation is not improving towards the spring classics.
