Omar Fraile has announced that he will leave professional cycling at the end of the 2025 season. After a fantastic career that included high-level wins in the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, Fraile has announced that he will leave professional cycling at the end of the 2025 season - his last with INEOS Grenadiers.

In total, 14 seasons between Orbea, Caja Rural, Dimension Data, Astana and INEOS the last four years: "Retiring in the best team in the world is a great privilege and an honor for me," he announced.

This is how he commented on the INEOS Grenadiers networks about his farewell: "The time has come to say goodbye to what has been my life so far, to leave professional cycling. It has been 14 years of professional cycling, 10 in the highest category, in the World Tour and I have wonderful memories and wonderful people that I will remember with special affection."

Fraile was a very prominent attacker early in his career, winning the KOM classification twice at the Vuelta a España in consecutive years, the first of which at ProTour level with Caja Rural. Besides victories at the Tour de Romandie and Itzulia Basque Country, the Basque rider was also national champion in 2021 and back in the 2010's he used his climbing prowess to win stages at the Giro d'Italia (2017 in Bagno di Romagna) and Tour de France (2018 in Mende).

In 2022 he signed with INEOS and became a seasoned domestique, with great qualities in the flat and hilly terrain, besides a great downhill skill. In 2023 he rode both Tour de France and Vuelta a España in support of the team's GC ambitions.

He's achieved a lot in his career, and now is the time to hang up the wheels: "This decision comes at the right time in my life, with my family, which has made this easier, as the last few years I was having trouble leaving home, especially with the birth of my second child in December".

"Cycling has changed a lot in recent years, we spend many days away from home, everything is much more demanding, this makes it more complicated to have to be away from home," he concluded.
