Talking on the media day of his new team, Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. After the first days in his new squad after leaving Movistar Team behind, the Basque rider is more than excited about the 2025 season.
Thinking about his goals, he declares that he would like to be in the Tour de France, but that it is something that is still undecided and that will depend on the classics season: "I'd like to be in France, but with the Classics in between, anything can happen. You have to rest, train, train, train and train... and it will depend on how I am. It's not fixed: you have to earn it," he tells Eurosport.
So he will start 2025 by racing the Étoile de Bessèges and the Volta ao Algarve in preparation for the Opening Weekend of the classics: Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne - Brussels -Kuurne. Then he doesn't know what he will race after a high altitude training camp on Teide, although he is clear about what he would like to do: "Harelbeke (E3 Saxo Classic, ed.), Waregem (Dwars door Vlaanderen, ed.), Flanders and Roubaix".
About his time with Movistar Team he has only good words and gratitude for a team that, he says, has been key in his growth as a cyclist. He has not left because of bad feelings, he has gone looking for a new challenge in his career:
"A month ago I was having lunch with Eusebio Unzué and I told him that I am super grateful, with each and every member of the team. The management, the staff... Three magnificent years for me. When I went from Caja Rural to Movistar I was nobody. They have given me confidence, calendar, means to train". Alongside that, he proved himself as a quality classics riders, and has taken wins on national championships, Clásica Jaén Paraiso Interior, Vuelta a Burgos and more...
"Maybe they were not economically the strongest team, but they have supported me in a great way. I don't know if there are people who think that I have left the team badly, but it is not like that. Life is cycles. They have given me a tremendous opportunity, I have also known how to take advantage of it, and I can only be grateful".
