"No comment" - Can Remco Evenepoel tackle Hour record with Red Bull - BORA? British aero expert Dan Bigham weighs in

At Rouleur Live, plenty of big figures in the world of cycling were present and shared their thoughts on plenty relevant topics. Dan Bigham, aero expert and staff member of Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe, is going to work with Remco Evenepoel and has been asked directly if the Olympic, World and European time trial champion may attempt the Hour Record. His answer, quite ambiguous.

"Speaking to the team about the World Hour record, that's a very leading question. No comment," Bigham laughed in an interview with TNT Sports. "With Remco no comment". Naturally, there is no decision yet on the topic. But earlier in the summer in an interview with L'Équipe, Evenepoel opened up to the possibility of doing it: 

“Yes, I would like to do that, but I have to wait a few more years. I think it is definitely possible for me to beat the current world hour record.” Patrick Evenepoel has, in September, pointed in the same direction: "We haven’t spoken about it directly yet, but I think it could interest him one day. It’s exactly the kind of challenge that should attract him".

The current Hour Record is held by Filippo Ganna of INEOS Grenadiers, who set an eye-watering benchmark of 56.792 kilometers in 1 hour. A powerhouse time trialist and experienced track rider, he is a rider who may not be beaten by anyone in the current peloton. Bigham himself has held the record prior to Ganna with 55.548 kilometers, whilst working as a staff member for INEOS Grenadiers. Hence combining Bigham's expertise with Evenepoel's time trialing abilities, it could lead to a perfect combination that could see the Belgian improve on the record. 

"Do I think Remco will attempt the Hour Record attempt in the future? I feel like this will be plastered all over the internet," he laughed. "Yeah I'm sure he'll have a go. Can he beat it, of course he can, we'll see".
