Colombian rider Nairo Quintana will be Movistar Team's main bet to win the overall classification of the Vuelta a Burgos 2024, which will be held from August 5 to 9. Quintana has already worn the purple jersey on two previous occasions (2013 and 2014) and has won in the mythical Lagunas de Neila twice, consolidating himself as a strong contender in this race ahead of the Vuelta a España.
Quintana, whose continuity in Movistar Team seems assured for one more season, has an impressive track record. Among his most notable achievements are the Vuelta a España (2016) and the Giro d'Italia (2014). He has also won the Volta a Catalunya (2016), the Itzulia Basque Country(2013) and the Tour de Romandie (2016), proving to be one of the most complete and successful climbers of the last decade.

Movistar's team for the Vuelta a Burgos

Quintana will be accompanied by a solid and experienced team. The riders that will make up the team are:
  • Javier Romo (ESP): Winner of the white jersey for the best young rider in the last edition of the Vuelta a Burgos.
  • Jorge Arcas (ESP)
  • Jon Barrenetxea (ESP)
  • Iván García Cortina (ESP)
  • Ruben Guerreiro (POR)
  • Iván Romeo (ESP)
The Spanish team will seek to support Quintana in his goal of winning the Spanish race again, taking advantage of his vast experience and ability in the mountains.

Movistar Team Statement

In a recent statement, Movistar Team expressed its enthusiasm for Quintana's return to competition: "Nairo is back! Nairo Quintana will be this Monday 5 at the start of the Vuelta a Burgos, a step prior to his competition in La Vuelta a España 2024," the team confirmed, underlining the importance of this race as preparation for the last Grand Tour of the year, which will start in the middle of the month.
Quintana is back after overcoming an injury that prevented him from finishing the Tour de Suisse. This will be his fifth competition of the year, having previously participated in the Tour Colombia, the Volta a Catalunya, the Giro d'Italia and the aforementioned Tour de Suisse, where he withdrew after the second stage due to a crash.
The Vuelta a Burgos 2024 represents a crucial opportunity for Quintana to regain his form and prove his fighting ability, with an eye on a top performance at the Vuelta a España 2024. With his track record in this race and the backing of a strong team, expectations are high for the Colombian and Movistar Team.
